The Great War in Serbia: historical lessons, foreign humanitarian missions and the culture of remembrance
The Endowment’s second international scientific conference takes place on 9 and 10 October 2026 in Sjenica, at the House of Culture. Twenty-two papers bring together researchers from Serbia, Russia and Europe around one question: who helped Serbia during the Great War, and how is that memory passed on to new generations.
About the conference
The conference brings together archivists, historians, physicians, librarians, teachers and researchers working on records of foreign medical and humanitarian missions in Serbia between 1914 and 1918.
Papers cover Russian, British, Scottish, Dutch and Swedish relief, the history of the Serbian military medical service, epidemics, and the ways these memories are preserved and transmitted today.
